Created in God’s Image

Are we created in God’s Image? Really? What does it mean??

We know from the passage of the Bible Book of Genesis, Chapter 1, and verse 26 which tells us that God has created us in His Image.

What is God’s Image??
What does it mean to bear His Image??

Some people say that it is:

1. Emotions
2. Communication
3. Conscience
4. Spirit
5. Attributes
6. Love ( Desire for happiness)
7. Will (Choice)
8. Breath of life

These answers are very close to the meaning. As all of these separate us from other Creation of God. But let’s see, what it means from the word of God ( Bible)

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and the birds of the heavens and the livestock and all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
Genesis 1:26 ESV


Genesis 1:26-29( God Created Human ) In His Image. “seem” is a word for Image in Hebrew which means to Represent which is a sense that is used for Ambassador. So we are ambassadors who are representing God in his creation. This means all Human beings are representative of God.

But let’s first understand it more
God Image Revealed In His Word:-

1. Wisdom
2. Co-Ruler
3. Pro-Creator/Co-Creator
4. Ability to Make Choice
5. Share His Sovereignty
6. Not Automation( Not like a robot)

These are functional Image traits that we have as Image bearers.

Are All Humans have this very Image of God?
As a matter of fact,
Yes! Because Bible says, “God created humanity in his image, after His likeness”.
God has given his Image to All humans but it has been destroyed by Our bad choice that is Sin.

But there is only one who can bear this image Fully, Exactly and perfectly… (Hebrew 1:3)

Jesus is the Exact Representation and God himself.

We are representative of God, as we have his image in us. But we have failed to represent God’s image right. We have failed to live the way God intended, we have failed to obey him, worship him, and Glorify him.

This Image has been destroyed by Our Sin But Jesus, the Son of God who Is the exact Representation of God, came to save us by dying on our behalf to renew our broken image and enable us to bear God’s Image …

We are created to glorify our Creator, blessed with the Image of God but we failed to bear his Image, we are failing to Glorify GOD. All are Sinner and we all have fallen short of glory. We all deserve Punishment as we worship creation, lie, steal, commit sexual immorality, murder ( including our Anger; Matthew 5:21-22). We sin against God and His Law. We have destroyed God’s Image. Bible says, “It is appointed for the person to die and then there is judgment”. God will punish all Sinner.

But in Christ, we have hope. We know that he was an exact imprint of God who perfectly represented God’s Image and This Sunless son of God came and Die for us so that we would be forgiven. He took our place and penalty on himself when he was crucified on the cross for our sin. So that we would be justified by his righteousness and sacrifice. As most popular Bible verse goes on saying, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son so that whosoever believe in him will not perish but have eternal life ( Everlasting life with God)”.
